If Adam and Eve did not have the knowledge of good and evil (before they ate the fruit) how was it a sin for them to eat it? The text doesn’t make clear if Eve was even aware that God said not to eat from the tree, without knowledge of a law, there is no sin. Adam chose to eat the fruit, but he didn’t know what good and evil was, he wouldn’t have known that not trusting God was good or evil. Sin is a deliberate violation of God’s will. If Adam didn’t have the knowledge of good and evil it was not a deliberate violation.

If you command an infant to not pull your hair, and they pull your hair because it looks pleasing to their eye, is that a sin? Is that disobedience? They have no knowledge of right and wrong, or good and evil. Without the knowledge of good and evil, how did God expect Adam to understand?

The sin was to defy God’s specific instruction to not eat of that tree. It’s a lack of faith that caused the fall. He told Adam very explicitly. The serpent caused doubt in Eve but if she came directly from Adam it’s unlikely she wouldn’t know the instruction. You do raise a good point though. From the text we don’t have explicit instruction to Eve not to eat of the fruit.

Funnily enough it sounds more like a man thing to do to eat of the one forbidden tree out of a general statement given by a woman. But maybe that’s just humanity I don’t know. Interesting thought.

It probably just points to the fact that it’s Adam’s fault for not specifying 😂
