Mormon missionaries discover God
June 28, 2025
In the video, Danny, a former active member of the Mormon Church, recounts an encounter with two young LDS missionaries who visited his home. During their visit, Danny felt prompted by the Spirit to ask the missionaries to share their testimonies about God. He then shared biblical passages from Isaiah that emphasize the existence of only one true God, contrasting with the Mormon belief in multiple gods and the potential for humans to become gods. This revelation caused the senior missionary to leave abruptly, overwhelmed by doubt and confusion. After several days of reflection and Bible study, the missionaries returned, eager to learn more about the biblical perspective. Danny guided them through various biblical teachings, leading them to question the differences between Mormonism and the biblical gospel. The experience inspired Danny to create animated dialogues between Mormon missionaries and a Christian, sharing these insights on his website and YouTube channel to help others understand the differences between Mormonism and Christianity.
Mormon missionaries discover God
Hello, my name is Danny. For 60 years, I was an active member of The Corporation of the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Yes, that is its official legal name – otherwise known as The Mormon Church.
One day some years ago, two young men – LDS missionaries knocked on my door. I invited them out of the cold snowy February weather, and they sat together on my couch across from me in my front room. With a serious demeaner about them, they politely asked why I hadn’t been to church in a long time? My first impulse was to tell them with all my knowledge about the problems with LDS church’s history and its doctrine. As I was about to open my mouth, I heard a voice from within me – the Spirit telling me not to say anything and to just get out of the way. It kind of shocked me at first, but I heeded the impression. Next thing, I found myself asking was for the two Elders to bear their testimonies. Specifically, to bear their testimonies about who God was to them. They excitedly accepted the invitation and both took their turn. The senior companion shared his testimony and then the junior companion followed with his testimony of God.
When they were done, I thanked them. Then I asked if I could share a testimony? They said, of course, we would love to hear your testimony. I smiled and told them it wasn’t mine, but God’s testimony of Himself. Well, that aroused their attention. I said, you have your Bibles with you – I’m going to have you turn to the Old Testament. I first asked the senior companion to read out loud Isaiah 43:10-11, which he did. Then, I asked the junior companion to read out loud Isaiah 44:6,8.
Just as the junior companion finished his reading of those passages – without saying a word – the senior companion suddenly stood up, walked across the room to the front door, put on his boots and overcoat, and walked out into the snow. His companion and I sat there a bit stunned and perplexed. The junior missionary apologized to me and said he needed to go after his companion. So, he put his boots and coat on, then hurried out the door after him. I thought – wow, that was kind of bizarre. I wondered what had just happened. We were having such a nice conversation, and then it was over. All I could do now is leave it in God’s hands.
Five days later, the missionaries were again knocking on my door. I thought, they have returned with a rebuttal to those passages and intend to convince me of their Mormon message. When I let them in, I could see a completely different demeanor about them. They were friendly and upbeat. I invited them in and had them sit down. The senior companion wanted to apologize as to why he left so abruptly. He preceded to explain that while they were reading those Isaiah verses on the first visit, he felt a rush of confusion and doubt come over his mind as to who the Mormon God was compared to the God described in the Bible.
He heard and understood for the first time, God declaring in Isaiah 43:10-11 “Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour.” And in Isaiah 44:6,8 “Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not, I told thee from that time and have declared it? Ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.” In this context, the word “God” is with a capital “G”. He is not talking about small g-gods like idols made with men’s hands. God was keenly aware of idol gods created by men. Here God declares that no other God had been formed before Him, and neither will there ever be a God after Him. He is the Lord and beside Him there is no other. He is the first and the last. He who is Omniscience, doesn’t even know of another God like Himself.
That blew this missionary’s mind, and he had to rush outside to get fresh air and to process the information he had just discovered for the first time in the Bible.
You see, there are many Gods in Mormonism. Three Gods specifically, in the Godhead alone – each a separate God. Mormonism even teaches that men can become Gods. In fact, the missionary recalled what Joseph Smith Jr. taught in the King Follet Discourse. In this 1844 sermon, Smith said: “It is necessary we should understand the character and being of God and how He came to be so; for I am going to tell you how God came to be God. We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea, and take away the veil, so that you may see. God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens! That is the great secret…. that he was once a man like us…. we shall be heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ. To inherit the same power, the same glory and the same exaltation, until you arrive at the station of a god, and ascend the throne of eternal power. Here, then, is eternal life – to know the only wise and true God; and you have got to learn how to be Gods yourselves… the same as all Gods have done before you…” – Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr., “King Follett Discourse,” also found in Journal of Discourses, v. 6, pp. 3-4, also in Teachings of the Prophet of Joseph Smith, pp. 345-346.
Along with that, Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 7, p. 333 taught, “He is our Father – the Father of our Spirits and was once a man in mortal flesh as we are and is now an exalted being.” Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 3, p. 93 said, “The Lord created you and me for the purpose of becoming Gods like himself.”
I personally remember listening to a priesthood session of General Conference in 1975 when President Spencer W. Kimball said, “Brethren, 225,000 of you are here tonight. I suppose 225,000 of you may become gods. There seems to be plenty of space out there in the universe. And the Lord has proved that he knows how to do it. I think he could make, or probably have us help make, worlds for all of us, for every one of us 225,000.”
Well, the missionaries told me they had been in their apartment the past few days reading their Bible, looking for answers, and having lots of questions. They found over and over again in Isaiah, Yahavah proclaiming to be the only true God that exists. For example: Isaiah 43:3 “For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour.” Isaiah 44:24 “Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself.” Isaiah 45:5-6 “I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else.” Isaiah 45:14-15,18,21-22 “Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God. Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour. For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it: I am the Lord; and there is none else. There is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.” Isaiah 46:9 “Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me.” Isaiah 47:4,8 “As for our redeemer, the Lord of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel. I am, and none else beside me.” Isaiah 48:12,17 “I am he; I am the first, I also am the last. Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God.” Isaiah 49:26 “and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.”
And, I might add as well, Deuteronomy 4:35 “Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the Lord he is God; there is none else beside him.” And, the Great Shema, Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord.”
I explained to the missionaries that God is eternal who has no starting point, no beginning, He is self-existent. Psalm 90:2 “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” Revelation 1:8,11 “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last.”
Also, God is unchanging and unchangeable, Malachi 3:6 “For I am the Lord, I change not.”
God is omnipresent, Jeremiah 23:24 “Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.”
Nothing can contain our God, 2 Chronicles 2:6 “seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him.” (1 Kings 8:27; 2 Chronicles 6:18).
God is not like His creations, Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent.” He was never a son of a human man who became God.
Yeshua said, God is pure Spirit, John 4:24 “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
Since any other god is a false god – to worship such a god is to violate the first commandment, Exodus 20:3 “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
The Latter-day Saint must decide which “God” – the god described by Joseph Smith or the God described in the Bible is the Only One True God. Yeshua Himself said, Luke 4:8 “for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
I ask you the listener – after reading all those passages, is there any doubt the Scripture is clear on there being only One True God that exists?
Now with open hearts and minds, those missionaries decided to return to my home and they asked if I would please teach them more. And, at that moment, the hair on my arms literally stood up, as the Spirit witnessed to me the importance of what had happened to those young men. It was a divine appointment! They were hungry for truth.
I said, I would love to answer any questions they had – using only the Bible. I wanted them to know they could trust finding answers in God’s written word. So, for the next two hours we talked about prophets, priesthood, temples, tithing, the nature of Yeshua and God, etc. Using only the Bible to guide us. In the end, they arrived at their own conclusion that Mormonism was not like the Biblical gospel.
When we finished our discussion, the senior companion was distraught, even brought to tears. He said – knowing what I know now, I don’t think I can finish my mission. I said, well I guess you could go home. But perhaps you were meant to come to Utah for a different purpose. Now that you know the truth, you can teach everything about the wonderful message of God to those you meet. The LDS need to hear your testimony about Yeshua and learn of His true plan of salvation. That proposal turned his frown upside-down, and he was encouraged to do just that.
We finished by standing in a circle, holding hands as I prayed a blessing upon them. As we embraced each other in tears, they thanked me for spending the time and they left. It was a sweet moment and an experience I will never forget.
Not long after that, I came up with the idea of duplicating that same experience by creating a series of dialogues between two Mormon missionaries and a Christian, who once was LDS. I put them in animation videos on a website my friend Seth created for me called Talking to Mormons.com. I am currently posting new content like this video on YouTube, and subscribers are growing steadily. It is a valuable resource for anyone wanting to better understand Mormonism and Christianity. People who want to talk with me can find my phone number on my website. I now know why my long tenure in Mormonism was so beneficial in preparing me for this ministry to the Latter-day Saints, who I love and respect.
I hope this was an encouragement to you.
Please share, like and subscribe.
Until next time, God Bless!
