Have no other gods before me: why would God have this as a commandment if there are no other gods? In the summary of everything video Shawn says that there are no other gods but there are a few examples of other gods in the bible, Satan being the most well known. He is described as the god of this world.

Also in 2 King’s 3, the Moabite king, Mesha, sacrificed his son to Chemosh, the Moabite god, and the text says that because of this sacrifice Chemosh defeated the Israeliites.

Heiser talks about the council of gods, and that the Israeliites believed in many gods.

My understanding of the commandment to have no other gods is to not worship other gods, not that other gods don’t exist. Monarchic montheism. Yeshua told us not to worship him, but only the Father, demonstrating that he was subordinate to His Father. What do you think? Probably too complicated a question for Thursday call in!

We discussed this in the call in this week! all these questions are awesome.

simply put, Shawn identified that the other gods existed, but that there is only one “creator” God. Which is the ultimate differentiator…
