Course 2: Growing in Faith Without Religion
A course on spiritual maturity through two stages: The Wash Cycle with the Four L’s, and the Rinse Cycle with the Four Traits, taught by Shawn McCraney.
About This Course
This course, taught by Shawn McCraney, presents a framework for spiritual maturity from the Yeshuan perspective apart from religious systems, behavioral conformity, or institutional authority. It is structured around two distinct developmental stages. The first is The Wash Cycle, known as The Four L’s: Light, Learning, Love, and Liberty. This cycle describes how individuals mature through humility, truth-seeking, disciplined learning, obedient love, and the personal freedom that results from practicing Christ’s commands. The Wash Cycle is lifelong and may repeat continuously as individuals confront and release patterns rooted in the natural mind, will, and emotions.
The second stage is The Rinse Cycle, known as The Four Traits, which may follow a significant spiritual disruption or “X Factor” event. In this stage, previously acquired knowledge, beliefs, and spiritual practices are no longer sufficient to sustain faith. The course explains the leap of faith as a response grounded in love for God rather than logic or certainty. From this surrender emerges spiritual perspicuity, defined as the ability to discern reality through the Spirit of the resurrected Christ rather than through religious law, emotional reaction, or human reasoning.
The course concludes by examining what Shawn calls ultimate spiritual maturity, which results from identification with the risen Christ rather than imitation of His mortal life. This maturity is characterized by freedom from fear, expanded compassion for all people, discernment beyond moral dualism, and liberty rooted in Christ’s completed work. The course emphasizes that while The Wash Cycle prepares and matures believers, The Rinse Cycle reorients them entirely toward resurrection life, enabling faith, love, and perception to operate beyond religious structure.
